There are two main career tracks at Tofugu:
Outside of the main tracks, there are also Support type roles (which focus on helping professional, management, and executive roles to perform their duties) and Executive type roles, which form the leadership team.
For some reason, society has come to see management roles as higher than professional roles. The reality, though, is that both of these role types are equally important. A high level management role and a high level professional role both can contribute a ton, in their own ways. Our dual career track ladder tries to take this into account. We don’t want management type roles to be the only way to make a higher salary, or reach a higher level.
In our career ladder, P3
professional roles are equivalent to the M1
level management role. Assuming both base roles are the same (e.g. software engineer & software engineer manager), the M1
and P3
(or in certain cases / roles, P4
) role levels are paid the same, or at least fairly closely.
This way, people who thrive in independent contributor roles can continue to develop and grow their careers within that track. And, those that would thrive in management roles may get moved over. Just because you’re good at doing something doesn’t mean you’re good at management, and we don’t want to punish either track for doing what they’re best at.
