It's important that you keep your accounts and devices secure. That comes in several forms:

Devices

Things like laptops, phones, tablets, etc., should always have a password. This is the first line of defense should your device get stolen.

Don't leave your device unattended. That includes asking a random person sitting next to you in a coffee shop to "keep an eye on my stuff."

Set strict device password rules. They should be required every time you turn them on after putting them to sleep or shutting them down (versus a 15 minute no-password timer, for example).

Passwords

Your passwords should be long. 14+ characters, contain numbers, spaces, capital letters, lowercase letters, and symbols. Make a sentence if you need to. The password "I have 8 horses yeehaw!" is actually a very good password.

All your passwords should be unique. Don't repeat passwords and don't modify them by one or two characters.

Use 1password! We have a team account. It has a password-generator you can use to make new, crazy passwords for each individual account. If you're able, make a 32-64 character long password.

If available, you should always use 2-factor authentication.

Make sure your 1password password is amazing. It's your second line of defense.

Using 1Password

Use of 1Password is mandatory. It keeps all of our (and your) passwords safe. Since many of our logins are shared or the apps we use are private (like Basecamp), we are all affected by compromised passwords or leaked data.
