General expectations about working at Tofugu. For more detailed expectations see Tofugu’s Principles, as well as the Core Competencies.
Do your work at a consistently high level, as defined by ‣, ‣, and ‣.
If you are performing below expectation, you’ll get ‣. If it’s consistent and unimproving, or an instance is quite large, your lead will talk with you about it.
If you think you’re performing poorly, give yourself ‣. If it’s something big or a consistent issue, you should preemptively talk to your lead or affected colleague(s).
You should give priority to your health, friends, family, hobbies, etc.
You are not defined by your work, nor do we want you to be.
Work is the mustard on the sandwich called “life.”
We won’t say we’re all a big “family” here at Tofugu.
That doesn’t mean we don’t develop close bonds and friendships.
And that doesn’t mean we don’t treat each other with respect (we probably treat each other with more respect than a lot of families, if we’re being real here).
But saying Tofugu’s a family is a disservice to your family. Your friends. Your hobbies. And everything outside of work. Saying a company is a “family” communicates that we think you should consider choosing us over your spouse, children, friends, and the like.
But, we expect you to have a fulfilling life outside of work. At the very least, we won’t prevent you from having one.
We hope you enjoy your work, your colleagues, and find some meaning at Tofugu.
But, we also expect you to get your work done, separate it from your life, and use that extra time to create stronger and more meaningful bonds with friends, family, and the like.
We’re figuring things out and we change a lot. We want to get better.
Teams will change. Responsibilities will change. Roles will change. Expectations will change. Culture will change. Everything!
If we look back at ourselves a year from now and we’re the same as we are now, we did something very wrong.
